Spend two days hiking from rice fields into bamboo forest, sleeping in a Karen village, and meeting rescued elephants. Spend 9 to 10 hours outside Ho Chi Minh City at Can Gio’s mangrove reserve. Walk among mischievous monkeys, visit crocodiles and the Rung Sac military base, ride a motorized boat through the mangroves, and enjoy lunch by the coast with an English-speaking guide.

Leave Yogyakarta for a small-group day in Central Java. Walk through Selogriyo’s rice terraces to a quiet 9th-century Hindu temple, stop for local coffee, then visit Kedung Kayang Waterfall with Mount Merapi behind it. Guides may include Arma, Didik, Sigit, or Dani.

Walk from Sapa through Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai, and Ta Van with a local Hmong guide such as Chu, Sang, or Vang. Expect rice terraces, village life, cultural stories, lunch, and a 5 to 6 hour trek. Good shoes matter because parts of the route can be muddy, slippery, and steep.

The landscapes were stunning and we learnt so much from Chu about Hmong life in the villages. She is so knowledgeable and given she lives in one of the villages, can speak authentically about life in the villages. The walk was 6 hours, we are of average fitness and survived (although with sore legs the next day). Yes you climb up a rice paddy and it’s not easy but it’s absolutely worth it and should be do-able for most! A must when in Sapa!”
Start near Karon with a steep jungle trek toward Phuket’s Big Buddha, stopping for fruit, coconut, and views over Kata and Karon. Guides such as Kong, Bon, Ice, Miu, and Nuya lead the route, followed by Wat Luang Phu Supha, Wat Chalong, and a farm-to-table lunch.

In the end they didn’t arrive so it was just the 2 of us (plus Kong) on the adventure. We did the longer hike around and up the mountain learning about Thailand along the way. Meet Karina Pöschl and the farm’s friendly alpacas and llamas, each named after a Middle Earth character. You’ll lead your own animal through Mödling’s forest paths and vineyards, pause for views, and return with plenty of photos and a llama or alpaca license.
“Wr get to be up close with the alpacas and llamas and we each have our own individual companion for the short hike. The alpacasans llamas were generally well behaved despite some side distractions of wanting to graze when they aren't supposed to mid way. But all in all, it was a fun experience where we got to lead our own alpaca/llama and we even get a alpaca/llama driving licence (certificate) at the of the activity.”
